‘We are going to be very strong’ - Harbour View to regroup and strengthen for next Caribbean Cup match against CA Pantoja
After pocketing three points in their opening Concacaf Caribbean Cup game against Dunbeholden to take the lead in Group B, Harbour View will sit out week two of the competition.
However, for coach Ludlow Bernard it is a chance to regroup and strengthen the team for the next assignment against CA Pantoja in the Dominican Republic next week.
Bernard pointed out that he overcame Dunbeholden with a largely inexperienced team and limited preparation and credits the players' defensive organisation and discipline for the result.
However, with almost two weeks between their first and second game, Bernard said they will be even stronger for the remainder of the competition.
"This win is a very big boost for us because we know exactly what we have in the tank. We know the players who are going to be available for selection going into the next set of games and I know we are going to be very strong.
"So I expect to get better and with the attitude that these guys demonstrated (in first game), hopefully, it gets infectious and if that is the case we should be looking at a very good team," he said.
He revealed that many of his more attacking players were hesitant about their defensive approach but in the end it was vindicated.
"Discipline wise and defensively, we made special emphasis on this throughout the course of the week. Some of the more naturally attacking players were hesitant but due to the lack of preparation we figured that this would be the best approach.
"Dunbeholden had been training about two to three weeks ahead of us, so the discipline had to be good and our goalkeeper came up trumps.
"And in these types of games you need a break and it came from a corner and it was a well taken goal," Bernard said.
He added: "So organisation had to be key because we decided that we were going to take the approach that is defensive, as we would not have time to really prepare ourselves but that is the result you get when you are disciplined."
