The 53-year-old man at the center of a gruesome murder case involving his mother will undergo a psychiatric evaluation after the 80-year-old woman's decomposing body was found in their home.

Paulo Grant made his first appearance in the St Catherine Parish Court today and was remanded until February 3, 2026.

During the hearing, the prosecution asked that he be moved from the Bog Walk police lock up to the St Catherine Adult Correctional Centre.

Allegations are that around 11:10 a.m. on November 30, the body of retiree Jasmine Grant, otherwise called Sister Grant, was found inside the home. Police were summoned, and upon arrival officers discovered the body on the floor in an advanced state of decomposition with several incised wounds.

Her son, who was at the premises at the time, was arrested on suspicion of murder and was later charged following a question and answer session.
