Panama oust U17 Girlz
Analia Arosemena scored the game's only goal in the 38th minute as Panama eliminated hosts Jamaica 1-0 and 2-1 on aggregate in their Concacaf Under-17 girls' qualifiers at Sabina Park yesterday.
Panama will take their place in the final round of the Concacaf Under-17 Championships.
Though disappointed with the final result, Jamaica's coach, Hugh Bradford, thought they gave everything towards the effort.
"I am very disappointed because I believe we have something special in this country. We have talent and should be in every final round in every age group.
"The players worked really hard. They left it out there. They gave everything they had, and I am proud they went out and never quit. That is all I can ask of them," Bradford said.
It was an even start for both teams, but the Panamanians took the lead through Arosemena's effort seven minutes before halftime.
Jamaica had several opportunities to pull level before the break but failed to capitalise.
After the break, Shanieke Young had the best chance to equalise, but her effort never troubled Nicolette Mas in goal for Panama.
Cristabelle Rios and Jozuanys Santos had great chances to put the game to bed for Panama but could not beat Sajane Anderson in goal.
Panama midfielder Veronica Latorraca said it was amazing to achieve their objective.
"We have been training so hard for the last few months, and we travel here, and this feeling is so incredible. I am speechless. This is so amazing," she said.
"We had to give our hundred per cent. So (we had to) leave it all or go home."
