Fire spark at Texaco gas station

A routine stop at a busy St Andrew gas station turned into a frightening scene on Tuesday afternoon when a car slammed into a fuel pump and burst into flames.

The dramatic incident unfolded shortly before 4 p.m. at the Texaco service station located at 141 Constant Spring Road.

Preliminary reports are that a female motorist entered the service station from Manning's Hill Road when her vehicle suddenly accelerated and crashed into one of the gas pumps.

The impact reportedly sparked a fire, sending workers and customers into panic.

Quick-thinking staff members and security personnel rushed into action, using fire extinguishers to battle the blaze before it could spread.

The Jamaica Fire Brigade and the police were alerted and responded swiftly to the scene.

Firefighters conducted safety checks while police launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

It was not immediately clear whether anyone was injured.

There were reports that the driver may have blacked out before the collision, but that information had not been independently confirmed up to publication time.

Investigations are ongoing.
