A waitress who was caught trying to smuggle ganja into a police lock-up in the Corporate Area was ordered to serve community service when she appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court yesterday.

Judith Saunders-Johnson pleaded guilty to introducing contraband and possession of ganja. Senior Parish Judge Lori-Ann Cole-Montague allowed her to explain.

"My fridge break down and I asked one of my sons to freeze ice for me. I didn't know that he put it [the ganja] in there until I come up here [to the lock-up] and they found it [the ganja] in the ice," Saunders-Johnson told the court. The weight of the substance was 0.28 ounces.

She was ordered to pay a fine of $3,000 or face 30 days' imprisonment for the possession of ganja and to serve 60 hours of community service for the offence of introducing contraband.
