Dexta Daps sends DayDreams into overdrive

Dexta Daps had Dream Weekend revellers eating out of the palm of his hand on Saturday, delivering a steamy, singalong performance that became one of the biggest moments of the festival’s Montego Bay debut.

The dancehall heartthrob was the man everyone was waiting for at DayDreams and, when he finally hit the stage at the Montego Bay Convention Centre, the response was deafening. Screams erupted as Dexta launched into his catalogue of hits, including WIFI, Owner, Call Me If and Breaking News.

The singer brought his trademark mix of passion, swagger and crowd interaction, with couples embracing, friends belting out the lyrics, and hundreds of phones shooting into the air to capture the action.

The ladies, in particular, were in their element, singing every word and swooning as Dexta worked the crowd.

For nearly an hour, the Convention Centre was transformed from a premium daytime party into a giant dancehall singalong, with Dexta proving once again that he knows exactly how to work an audience.

And, for some fans, the performance was worth the journey.

“This is my first ever Dream Weekend, and DayDreams has definitely lived up to the hype. The vibe was amazing, the all-white theme looked so good, and Dexta Daps gave us everything we wanted. It’s one of those events you don’t want to leave,” said Sophia Khan, who flew in from Birmingham.

DayDreams had set the stage for Dexta with thousands of patrons dressed in white, surrounded by premium décor, unlimited drinks and an atmosphere designed to blend sophistication with celebration.

But, when Dexta arrived, the polished daytime affair became all about dancehall, romance and raw crowd energy.

And, just when patrons thought the night could not get any more exciting, Dream Weekend switched gears.

As the sun disappeared, the elegance of DayDreams gave way to the schoolyard nostalgia of YUSH, presented by Casamigos.

The throwback party had patrons digging deep into their school memories, with a school-uniform dress code setting the tone for a night celebrating the music, fashion and culture of the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Dancehall star Tifa got the party moving with a high-energy set packed with crowd favourites before handing over to veteran entertainer Elephant Man.

Elephant Man pushed the energy even higher, unleashing his trademark stage presence, infectious hits, and signature dance moves.

The back-to-back events showcased the two very different sides of Dream Weekend — from the polished, romantic atmosphere of DayDreams and Dexta’s swoon-worthy performance to the carefree nostalgia and high-energy madness of YUSH.

Scott Dunn, group managing director of Dream Entertainment, said Saturday showcased what Dream Weekend is all about, as it served up completely different experiences within the same festival while maintaining the same level of quality.

“DayDreams delivered the premium, feel-good atmosphere we envisioned, and then YUSH allowed patrons to relive the music and culture that defined an era. Watching thousands of people fully embrace both concepts is incredibly rewarding and reinforces why Dream continues to evolve year after year,” Dunn said.
