I have found my Prince Charming

Dear Pastor,

I always enjoy reading your column. I was born in Jamaica but my parents migrated and took my brother and myself to live abroad.

I went to high school in America and did my first degree in the United States of America. I am now doing postgrad work and I was sharing an apartment with another girl. However, we separated because she went to live with her boyfriend, who is also doing postgrad work.

His brother and I hit it off and we started to live together. With what this guy earns on weekends, we are able to pay our bills. We study together and we do not waste money. I never knew that I would have fallen in love with a white guy, but that is how it is.

My parents have accepted him. My biggest fear was that my parents would have questioned why I could not wait until I have finished my master’s before getting involved with a man. My boyfriend is very good with his hands. My father is a mechanic. When I took him home to meet my parents, he assisted my father in working on a couple of cars. So the visit was not stressful.

My mother cooked up a storm. She prepared some real Jamaican food. My boyfriend is always asking me when I am going back to visit my parents because he is longing to eat some Jamaican food.

His parents have also accepted me. I am so happy about that. His family lives in a beautiful community and they have a lovely home. I am so glad that I have found this man. We are planning to get married soon after we have earned our master’s degrees. We would like to get married in Jamaica.

Would you be available to officiate at our wedding?

R.W.

Dear R.W.,

I wish you well. I hope that you can focus on your college work. I do not encourage young people to live together, especially when they are students. I have seen too many bad things go on and the women usually suffer more than the men. I am glad your parents have accepted your boyfriend and his parents have accepted you.

Whenever you plan to get married, please contact us and we will tell you what you should plan to do, if indeed you wish to get married in Jamaica. Call us at (876) 929-1667 or (876) 877-1009.
