Westmoreland have won the all-island Scotiabank Kiddies Cricket crown when they defeated St Elizabeth at the Kiddie Cricket Festival at the Trelawny Stadium on Tuesday.

At the final, the victors, who batted first, made 145 runs. However, the format of the game gives an additional 100 runs, increasing the total to 245 runs. St Elizabeth made 65, but had their tally increased to 165. However, St Elizabeth lost 20 runs, as the batters were not given out and made to leave the field. They instead continued to bat until their quota of two overs bowled to them were completed. They batted in pairs, with both coming off two overs, before being replaced by another batting partnership for another two overs.

Coach of Westmoreland, Michael Salmon, said: "Most of these players play the hard ball game, therefore, when they come to the soft ball they master this. We have a Saturday programme which also helps with the children's cricket development."

The top boy and girl batters awards went to Xavi Williams and Sandy Francis, respectively. Francis again topped the bowling for girls, and Demar Freeburn for the boys. The top boy fielder award was won by Tristan Forde and his female counterpart was Alecia Clarke. The top boy and girl wicketkeepers awards went to Tyrek Smith and Ashante McKenley, respectively.

The best players were chosen from the intra-parish school competition to form the individual parish teams. Through a series of play-offs, eight parishes were chosen for this one-day festival.
