Wadadah FC upset league winners and midseason champions Faulkland FC with a 6-5 penalty-kick victory, after playing to a 1-1 scoreline, to claim the JFF Western Confederation/ Charley's JB Rum Super League title.

Coach of Wadadah, Daniel Ricketts, applauded his goalkeeper Devaughn Hawthorne, who saved two of the penalty kicks to give them the title and a place in the Premier League play-offs.

"It's a good feeling to know where we are coming from and where we are now," said Ricketts. "Penalty is about luck and we came through ... I think he (the goalkeeper) had a good game. He has been producing for us all season; and since the semi-finals he has been great, so it's not surprising he came up trumps for us tonight," he added.

Faulkland FC had won the midseason finals in February. At the time, Gregory Palmer, the team's coach, said he was not concerned that teams that are crowned midseason champions often falter in the end. Yesterday he dismissed suggestion that his team fell to the midseason curse.

"No curse, I don't believe in curses. If we just had executed on the night we would be good to go, because you know penalty shoot-out is anybody's game," said Palmer.

"Yes, I am disappointed because we should have shared the ball in the 18 yards box more, but I guess as they are young. Youthful exuberance got the better of them," he added.

MVP happy

Odane Snow (79th minute) was the goalscorer for Faulkland FC.

The competition's MVP, Obrien Robinson, who finished with seven goals in the season, failed to find the net on Sunday but he was happy with the role he played.

"I knew they would be watching and marking me the whole game, so if I wasn't going to score, I knew I had to deliver by setting up a play so one of my teammates could score," he said.

Robinson set up Oshane Hunter in the 71st minute, a strike which gave Wadadah the lead.
