Stakes wins for Bridgmohan, Ramgeet

MIAMI, United States (CMC):

Jamaican jockeys Shaun Bridgmohan and Andrew Ramgeet both tasted added-money success last weekend at racetracks in the southern United States.

The 38-year-old Bridgmohan produced a come-from-behind effort with 3-1 choice Kabella to win the $50,000 Allen 'Black Cat' Memorial Overnight Stakes on Saturday at Fair Grounds in New Orleans.

Going a mile on turf for three-year-old fillies, Bridgmohan sat Kabella off the pace as 76-1 longshot Roussalka posted opening splits of 24.28 for the quarter and 48.75 for the half-mile.

Favourite Beyond Blame, tracking from third, took command at the top of the stretch but Bridgmohan brought Kabella with a thundering late run down the middle of the track to win by a length in a time of one minute, 39.98 seconds.

"She's a hard-trying filly. Every time they have let her over here, she's been real impressive," Bridgmohan said afterwards.

Ramgeet, meanwhile, paired with favourite Primo Touch to win the $30,000 Temple Handicap at Turf Paradise in Phoenix.

He recovered from a bobble at the start to make all the running with the gelding and beat the three-year-olds by two lengths, in the mile trip completed in a time of 1:36.72.

The success was the fifth in six outings for Primo Touch, including three added-money wins.
