PwC Jamaica's Kimblian Batson recently encouraged a group of 50 adolescent mothers who are enrolled at the Women's Centre of Jamaica Foundation (WCJF) to be fearless in the pursuit of their dreams.

Batson, in speaking at an event for the handing over of a $50,000 donation from Tameika Martin, a PwC team member, to the WCJF, told the young women that hard work and self-belief are critical to them achieving their goals.

"The world is your oyster, and there is nothing that you cannot do. There will be ups and downs, but as long as you keep your goals in mind and reach out for help when you need it, you will be able to achieve anything you set your mind to," said Batson, partner and diversity and inclusion leader at PwC Jamaica.

She encouraged the young women, who are enrolled in the programme for adolescent mothers, to develop a strong sense of self and to understand their aspirations.

In addition to handing over the funds, PwC partnered with the non-profit to host a creative art session for the 50 young women. Under the guidance of skilled painting instructors, the young ladies were given the chance to explore their creativity, learn artistic techniques, and express themselves through their unique artwork.

Dana Coley, a senior associate at PwC, in a keynote address, said confidence and persistence are important characteristics for persons to possess.

"To be confident, you have to know who you are and what you want for yourself. The purpose of this activity is to help you understand who you are," she said.

Beverley Martin Berry, director of field operations at WCJF, expressed heartfelt thanks to PwC for the donation and to Martin for selecting the WCJF as the beneficiary.

"Your action highlights your commitment to the UN movement to empower women and girls, and recognises the impact that women and girls have in shaping a country's economy and its people, which contributes to nation-building," Martin Berry said.

The WCJF is a non-profit organisation that is dedicated to empowering and supporting adolescent mothers.
