NHT apologies for delays following worker sickout
The National Housing Trust (NHT) has issued an apology for delays some customers are experiencing when carrying out in-branch transactions today.
The delays are as a result of dozens of the entity's workers calling out sick. The sickout is believed to be part of a protest regarding an outstanding job evaluation matter.
The action comes only a week after the anniversary of a similar industrial action when the group walked off the job.
Several sources at the state agency confirmed that workers began reporting sick from as early as 6:00 a.m. following an advisory from NHT Staff Association (NHTSA) President Shanna Whyte on Sunday.
“There appears to be some divisive action being employed at this time. The NHTSA would like to categorically state that we have not received any communication regarding a response from the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service up to the time of this notice,” Whyte told union members.
She told the group to “stay tuned”.
Attempts by The STAR to reach Whyte for comment were unsuccessful as calls to her cell phone went unanswered.
"Customers in the meantime are being reminded that most inbranch services, are available online," the NHT said in a release.
