Crook takes gold earrings from woman’s ears - Judge orders him to spend Christmas behind bars

A judge was shocked when it was reported that a thief stole a woman's earrings while she was still wearing them.

Kenardo Gardener pleaded guilty to larceny when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court yesterday.

It is reported that the complainant was walking along Barry Street in downtown Kingston when Gardener grabbed her by her throat and took a pair of gold earrings from her ears. The complainant then pointed out Gardener to police in the area and he was arrested and later charged. Senior Parish Judge Lori-Ann Cole-Montague expressed shock and disbelief at the report.

"The earrings were taken from the person's ears? And the police just offer him bail same time?" the judge asked.

Gardener told the court that he has faced the courts before on drug-related charges. The judge said that Gardener would be sentenced, but ordered to have him remanded until then. A fingerprint order was made and a request for his criminal records.

The judge remarked that there will be more incidents of theft as the Christmas season approaches.

"A nuff earring a go out a road a Christmas you know," she said.

Gardener is to return to court on January 18, 2022.
