A hail storm hit the western St Mary community of Barnswood yesterday, raining down some particles as big as pebbles.

A resident, Tevin Barnett, told THE WEEKEND STAR that the storm started around 12:30 p.m. and lasted for about 45 minutes.

Barnett said that the hail was accompanied by plenty of lightning, and admitted that persons within his household were frightened by the precipitation.

Unusual

He said the phenomenon was unusual for the community, as he has lived there for some 20 years and had never experienced that.

Barnett noted that elders in the community expressed similar views.

The storm caught some persons off-guard as the area had not had precipitation for about a week.

Barnett said he did not know of any damage to property and up to press time, there were no reports.

In June, hail fell in Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth, during a storm.
