Woman held wrong patient's hand
November 23, 2015
A woman held a patient's hand for 30 minutes after mistakenly thinking it was her mum.
Bernadette Walsh was stroking a woman's hand, who she believed belonged to her mum, for half an hour before nurses said they had got the wrong patient.
Bernadette - who had been told her 82-year-old mother had died - said: "I was in shock and completely hysterical. The nurses were saying I should stroke her hand and show her some love."
However, the truth emerged when Bernadette didn't recognise the name of another visitor.
She said: "Then one of them said, 'Roy's on his way', and I said, 'who's Roy?' They took me into another room and said, 'That's not your mum.'"
