Tippy Twins - Dancing sisters offer double dose of niceness
Dancing twins Tannatasia and Annatasia Mills eagerly anticipate the day when they will become a household name, not only in Jamaica but anywhere that dancehall music is played.
The 18-year-olds, who go by the moniker, T and A Twins, took their first steps towards stardom after videos of them dancing went viral on the social media app, TikTok. They have since made appearances in numerous music videos, including Ding Dong’s Bounce, QQ’s Triple Touch, IQ’s Soca and Vybz Kartel and Lanae’s Too Young. However, as the Spanish Town High School graduates explained, making it as dancers is a difficult journey.
“We started off in 2020 by creating a TikTok page called East Side Twins, but it didn’t work out so we tried individually, and it still didn’t work out,” Annatasia told THE STAR.
“We were about to give up, but we decided to try again. A new challenge came out and we decided to try it together and add our different creative styles, and we went viral,” she added.
According to Annatasia, they were encouraged to produce more twin content. They took the advice and it has been paying off.
“It’s the best thing that happened to us because all we ever wanted is to show the world our talent. We are thankful to our supporters because they pushed and motivated us to continue and never stop,” Annatasia said.
The T and A Twins, were born in England three minutes apart. They came to Jamaica when they were two years old and grew up in St Catherine. Dancing, they said, has been a central part of their lives. Tannatasia, the first born, said that they have received no formal dance training and are solely dependent on their raw talent. Their output, she said, is as a result of years of practice. They have even created some original moves.
“We do create our dance moves by listening to music and by holding a vibes and freestyling, then we give them names,” they told THE STAR. Their latest creation is called Tippy Twin. They are comfortable dancing with each other as their creative energies are complementary. When asked who is the better dancer, they simultaneously replied, “both of us!”
“The reason why we dance as a pair is because we have that connection and we understand each other more. Also, we grew up doing everything together,” said Annatasia while gushing about the beauty of the sister act.
“It’s amazing to know that you have someone that will never leave your side,” she said.
